Another Day in Palestine
今日もパレスチナにいる
Palestine on the east coast of the Mediterranean consists of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank district. It is said that the West Bank is relatively stable compared with the Gaza Strip, which frequently hits the Israeli army invasion. People go to school and work, spend time with family and friends, pray at mosques and churches. Olive cultivation is popular in mountainous region since ancient times, and it's an idyllic landscape of Palestine.
Meanwhile, in the West Bank, the division by concrete walls and fences and the construction of Israeli settlers continue. After the founding of Israel, there is no prospect of returning refugees fled to domestic and overseas.
I studied at a local university in the West Bank after encountering a young man living in a refugee camp. He spent three months until receiving an entry deny from Israel authority and photographed the people. Exhibited in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto
地中海東岸にあるパレスチナは、ガザ地区とヨルダン川西岸地区からなる。度々イスラエル軍の侵攻に見舞われるガザ地区と比べ、ヨルダン川西岸地区は比較的安定しているといわれる。人々は学校や職場に通い、家族や友人と時間を過ごし、モスクや教会で祈りを捧げる。山間部では古くからオリーブ栽培が盛んで、どこまでも続くオリーブ畑はパレスチナの牧歌的な風景である。
一方、西岸地区ではコンクリート製の壁やフェンスによる分断や、イスラエル人入植地の建設が続く。イスラエル建国以降、国内外に逃れた難民の帰還も見通しが立たない。生活と紛争が混在している。
私は、難民キャンプに住む青年との出会いをきっかけに、現地大学へ留学。イスラエルからの滞在拒否を受けるまでの3ヶ月をヨルダン川西岸地区で過ごし、報道に上がらない人々の生活模様を撮影した。 Exhibited in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto
